Germination
Shrubs in the chaparral germinate, making fires essential to the ecosystem due to the heat and smoke that is produced. However, fire still is a natural disaster. July (averages .05 inches of rain) and August (averages .07 inches of rain) are the two driest months, making the chaparral more vulnerable to fires during this time period.
Times to Visit the California Chaparral
The best time of year for eco-tourists to visit this region is September. It is the hottest month of the year, yet not uncomfortable. September averages a temperature of 70*F. In addition, the average rainfall during the month is .24 inches, which is little, but is not dry enough for forest fires to be frequent. Our group will be visiting the Chaparral from September 1st-8th.
